For years I’ve suffered with picking up colds and other illnesses throughout the year and as a competitive cyclist this often lead to long periods of being unable to train. Having been introduced to Lucy-Ann via my coach (Dr Helen Carter, www.pbscience.com) we discussed how we could boost my immune system so that my cycling wouldn’t suffer and I’d be able to work towards my dream of being an elite athlete. An analysis of my weekly food intake highlighted several potential problem areas - a possible food intolerance, and certain lifestyle factors that were impacting on my physical health, training and recovery. We started on a 3 month trial of cutting alcohol and milk protein from my diet, and making enhancements to my current diet. A few other tweaks and I can honestly say it has made a difference. Four months after our initial consultation and I’ve only picked up one very mild illness which only lasted a few days. It hasn’t felt like a regime either – I’ve occasionally had the odd glass of wine or sprinkling of parmesan on my pasta so haven’t felt like I’m missing out on the good stuff! I’ve been amazed at Lucy-Ann’s knowledge of nutrition and the variety of foods available, and enjoyed trying new recipes and experimenting with new foods. All I need to do now is train harder!
